Principal’s Message

Hyacinth Lewis
Principal
Principal Hyacinth Lewis proudly leads the McCullough Mustangs saying, “I always strive to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment where every student and staff member feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.” Lewis began her career with the Colonial School District as a teacher but worked tirelessly to become a school administrator. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Delaware State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Wilmington University. After teaching, she climbed the ladder as a math instructional coach, student advisor, and assistant principal before being promoted to her present position. “As the building principal, I consistently emphasize the importance of fostering a positive school culture, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students, and promoting academic excellence and personal growth. It reflects a commitment to both the educational and emotional well-being of students and collaboration with staff, parents, and the community to achieve these goals.” Lewis is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Canaan Baptist Church. She and her husband Brian are the loving parents of son, Brian Xavier, affectionately called “BX.”

Nicole Sumner
Assistant Principal
Nicole Sumner enjoys being on the administrative team for the McCullough Mustangs saying, “As an educational leader, I commit to ensuring that all students have equitable access to resources, opportunities, and support within the school. I also emphasize the importance of empowering students through education, advocacy, and creating a fair and inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. In addition, I strive to have positive interactions with students, staff, and families, aiming to create a school community where every individual feels valued and has the opportunity to succeed.” Sumner began her career in the Colonial School District more than 12 years ago as a student teacher and long-term substitute teacher before she began teaching full-time at Pleasantville Elementary School. She was a literacy coach before she was promoted to her present position. Sumner earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Millersville University, a Master’s in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University, along with a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Wilmington University.

Aaron Lamb
Assistant Principal
Aaron Lamb loves running with the McCullough Mustangs as the 7th-grade administrator saying, “As an educational leader I always emphasize putting the needs and growth of students at the forefront of decision-making. I believe in implementing fair and consistent discipline while promoting rigorous academic standards and supporting teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies. Finally, ensuring all students have equal access to resources, opportunities, and support regardless of background or ability. ALL students can succeed!” Lamb earned a Bachelor’s degree from Temple University and a Master’s from Grand Canyon University. He also earned a Certificate in Educational Leadership from Wilmington University.
